A little Myofascial Release
myofascial release for your shoulders… without fancy props
Oh shelter in place, you are doing a number on our bodies…
Lately, I’ve been really wanting to treat my students to some self massage, but since most people don’t have the panoply of yoga props that I have stashed under my bed, I’ve had to improvise. Usually, my favorite tool for myofascial release are Jill Miller’s Yoga Tune-Up therapy balls. In this video I’ll show you how to jerry-rig a pair of socks into an (almost) perfect pair of makeshift therapy balls. I use socks because they have just right amount of give while retaining some firmness, which mimics the feel of the Yoga Tune-Up balls.
This simple flow is inspired by one of my movement idols, Jen Crane of Cirque Physio (if you don’t know her, check her out!), who once used a pillowcase as a makeshift therapy ball.
Try this simple flow to release your upper traps and tell me how it goes!
